Inspect the Work
A craftsman doesn’t wait until the entire project is finished to discover whether the work is true.
From time to time, he stops.
He looks at what he has done. He checks the measurements. He considers what is working—and what needs correcting before he continues.
Our lives deserve the same inspection.
At the end of the day, it is easy to remember what everyone else did wrong. The impatient driver. The difficult coworker. The Brother who irritated us. The person who didn’t respond the way we thought they should.
But tonight, don’t inspect their work.
Inspect yours.
Where did you show patience? Where did you help someone? What decision are you pleased with?
And then ask the harder question:
Where could I have done better?
This isn’t about beating yourself up over every mistake.
A craftsman doesn’t throw away the whole project because one piece needs adjustment.
He corrects the work and continues building.
Today’s Work:
Before going to bed tonight, identify one thing you did well today and one thing you would do differently tomorrow.
Give thanks for the first.
Learn from the second.
Then put the tools down and begin again tomorrow.
Tonight, ask yourself:
What did today’s work teach me about the man I’m becoming?
Masonry works when it’s done daily.
