The-Everyday-Mason-Day-Nine-Leave It Better

Leave It Better

We often think making a difference requires doing something large.

Usually, it doesn’t.

Most of us move through dozens of places in an ordinary week—a home, workplace, Lodge room, restaurant, church, meeting room, parking lot, or somebody else’s office.

And every place gives us a small choice.

We can simply use the space and move on.

Or we can leave something better behind us.

Straighten the chairs. Pick up something that isn’t yours. Refill what you emptied. Clean the table. Return something to where it belongs. Help put the room back together before everyone leaves.

None of those things will earn much recognition.

That’s probably part of their value.

A working Mason shouldn’t always need to be asked to improve what is immediately in front of him.

Sometimes we simply notice:

“I can leave this a little better than I found it.”

And then we do.

Imagine what would happen if we carried that attitude beyond places.

Into conversations.

Into organizations.

Into our Lodges.

Into the lives of the people we encounter.

Today’s Work:
Choose one place you enter today and deliberately leave it a little better than you found it.

Don’t wait to be asked.

Notice what needs doing—and do it.

Tonight, ask yourself:

What was better because I passed through today?
