Pray for Wisdom, Not Just Answers
When we pray about a difficult situation, we often already know what answer we would like.
Fix this problem.
Open this door.
Change this person’s mind.
Make this decision work out the way I hope.
There is nothing wrong with bringing those desires before God.
But Solomon gives us another example.
When given the opportunity to ask God for what he needed, he asked for wisdom—an understanding heart capable of discerning what was right.
Perhaps there is a lesson there for us.
Instead of only asking God to change the circumstances around us, we can ask Him to develop the wisdom within us to meet those circumstances well.
Give me wisdom before I speak.
Give me discernment before I decide.
Give me understanding before I judge.
Give me patience when the answer does not come quickly.
The situation may not immediately change.
But perhaps the man standing in it will.
Today’s Work: Bring one problem before God today, but before asking for the outcome you want, ask for the wisdom to handle whatever answer comes.
Masonry works when it’s done daily.
