Be Still Enough to Hear
Our days are filled with noise.
Conversations. Telephones. Televisions. Responsibilities. Opinions. Problems waiting to be solved.
And even when the room becomes quiet, sometimes our minds do not.
We carry tomorrow’s work into today’s prayer.
We rehearse conversations that haven’t happened.
We ask God a question—and before there is any silence, we begin supplying our own answer.
Scripture gives us a remarkably simple instruction:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Perhaps being still is more than being quiet.
Perhaps it is deliberately laying down, for a few moments, our need to fix, decide, explain, and control.
Because sometimes what we need most isn’t another answer.
We need enough quiet to hear the whisper of God.
Find a place today where you can be alone for a few minutes.
Put the phone away.
Don’t bring a list.
Don’t try to accomplish anything.
Pray if you need to pray.
Then simply…
be still.
You may not hear an answer.
You may discover that listening was the work.
Today’s Work: Give God five quiet minutes today with no phone, no list, and no agenda. Be still enough to listen.
Masonry works when it’s done daily.
