Look Farther Down the Path
When we first begin working on ourselves, sometimes all we can see is the stone directly in front of us.
Say the prayer.
Do the kindness.
Call the Brother.
Learn something.
Reflect on the day.
Those simple practices matter. They give us somewhere firm to stand.
But the Foundation Stones were never meant to become the destination.
They give us the footing to look farther down the path.
Once a practice becomes part of the man, his question begins to change.
Not simply:
What should I do today?
But:
What kind of Mason am I becoming?
Where does this path lead if I keep walking it?
Perhaps that’s one of the quiet purposes of daily Masonry. Small acts practiced faithfully begin changing our vision. We start noticing work we couldn’t see before.
Another Brother we can help.
Another weakness that needs attention.
Another truth worth studying.
Another opportunity to serve.
Another part of ourselves still waiting for the working tools.
The Foundation Stones don’t tell us we’ve arrived.
They help us see where to go next.
Today’s Work: Look beyond today’s task. Ask yourself, “If I continue living Masonry this way, what kind of man will I be becoming?” Then take one step farther down the path.
Masonry works when it’s done daily.
