The Everyday Mason - Devotion

Start With Gratitude

It’s easy to begin the day thinking about everything we need to accomplish, the problems waiting for us, or the things we wish were different.

But before we ask for more, perhaps we ought to recognize what we’ve already been given.

As Masons, we are taught to acknowledge our dependence upon God. Gratitude is one way of putting that lesson into practice.

A quiet morning. A familiar voice. A Brother who checks on us. Another opportunity to improve ourselves. These are blessings we sometimes overlook because they’ve become part of our everyday lives.

Gratitude doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It means recognizing what is good, even when life is difficult.

Today’s Work:

Before the day gets away from you, pause and name three things for which you are grateful. Then take one additional step: let someone know you’re thankful for them.

Tonight, ask yourself:

Did I spend more time counting my blessings or my difficulties?
