Make the First Move.

Make the First Move

Sometimes distance grows without anyone intending it.

A phone call doesn’t get returned.

A disagreement is never quite resolved.

A Brother misses a few meetings, and after a while nobody remembers who stopped reaching out first.

We tell ourselves:

He knows where to find me.

It’s his turn to call.

If he wanted to come back, he would.

Maybe.

But Brotherhood was never meant to be a contest to see who can wait the longest.

There are times when an apology is needed. There are times when boundaries should remain. And not every relationship can—or should—be restored simply because we make an effort.

But many distances between people aren’t that complicated.

Sometimes two good people are simply standing on opposite sides of a silence, each waiting for the other one to cross it.

Be the one who crosses it.

Make the call.

Send the message.

Walk across the room.

Offer the handshake.

You don’t have to determine whose turn it is before deciding what kind of man you want to be.

Today’s Work: Think of one person you’ve been waiting to hear from. Instead of waiting one more day, make the first move.
