Don’t Assume He’s Fine
“How are you doing?”
“Fine.”
Most of the time, that’s enough to keep the conversation moving.
But sometimes fine is simply the easiest answer.
We don’t need to pry into a Brother’s life or insist that he tell us something he isn’t ready to share. But Brotherly Love sometimes asks us to stay in the conversation just a little longer.
Maybe it’s:
“No, really. How are you doing?”
Or:
“You sure everything’s okay?”
And then comes the important part.
Give him enough silence to answer.
A Brother may still say he’s fine. Respect that.
But he’ll also know the question wasn’t merely a greeting. Someone actually wanted to know.
And someday, when fine isn’t fine, he may remember which Brother gave him permission to say so.
Today’s Work: Ask one Brother how he’s doing today—and care enough to hear the real answer.
Masonry works when it’s done daily.
